My Escape...

This will be the first post on my blog that really doesn't pertain to a certain book or genre.  This is a post about my love of books and where it stems from.

My imagination is pretty awesome, if I do say so myself.  I read books in my head using different voices, seeing characters take shape and how they interact.  With a good author, I really feel like I'm watching a movie rather than racing through 400 pages.

I can't go to bed without reading.  I can't take a bath without reading.  I can't go anywhere with a wait time of more than 10 minutes without taking a book.

Plainly said, reading is my escape.  When I have a bad day, I just sit back and immerse myself in someone else's life when I need to get away from my own.

Today has been one of those days, probably what prompted the post.

Off to book land.

First Grave on the Right - Darynda Jones

I came across this title my mistake and I'm not sure if it was a happy mistake yet or not...

While stalking Karen Marie Moning on Facebook - one of my favorite hobbies, I came across a post stating that one of her characters was a finalist in a poll regarding super sexy men.  I feel as though I've read and fantasized about a good share of men from talented authors and I wanted to make my vote heard.

I came to the poll, and it was Reyes (D. Jones) vs. Ryodan (K.M. Moning).  I felt I had a duty to do to the poll system by stepping into Ms. Jones' world and getting to know this 'Reyes'.

I purchased First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson, Book 1) for a good deal in the Amazon Kindle Store and began getting to know Reyes.

I couldn't help but roll my eyes every time the main charterer introduced her self as 'Charley Davidson'. I live in Wisconsin.  I can sneeze and hit the Harley Museum.  It just irked me, don't ask me why.

While I enjoyed getting to know the characters, loved the introduction to this new world and really appreciated a different spin on the Paranormal monster meets monster take, Reyes just didn't do it for me.  That being said, the book didn't do it for me.

Does that mean I stopped at the first one?  Of course not, I really hope this turns around and I can actually start rooting for Charley and Reyes.  Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet (Charley Davidson) is currently featured as my "Currently Reading" book, however FGonR did have me casting my vote for Ryodan...and I hated him, so that's saying something.

It's been awhile - and for that I'm sorry.  I have never waned on my love and appreciation for books and authors, I just haven't had much time in my life to talk about my favorite past time.  That ends TODAY!

I was blown away by Kresley Cole's "Poison Princess".  I wasn't quite sure about dedicating myself to the purchase, as it was a little higher for a standard Kindle release.  Taking that into consideration, I found that Amazon was offering an extended preview which you can check out here.  I was hooked almost immediately.  This preview let you just delve deeper and deeper into the charterer development and become immersed in this world, making it impossible to not purchase the entire book.

Being an adult and picking up a YA book, I usually expect a cute story exploring first love and butterflies and flowers.  This book did not follow that traditional, predictable road and was something completely different.  It had you guessing, it had you sweating, it had you crying.

By far, this is the best book I have enjoyed in a while.  I will wait patiently for "Endless Knight".
